Norfolk Cider and Cider Vinegar
Proper cider made by The Norfolk Cider Company established in 1987. Based on a farm near Attleborough. Made from 100% pure fresh Norfolk apples. Only the best apples are selected to be turned into apple juice and fermented for a year before attaining the right consistency. The Norfolk Cider Company are now the oldest established cider makers in Norfolk, following the closure of William Gaymer and Sons, where the head cider maker once worked. They continue a tradition in Norfolk that stretches back to at least 1204.
Cider made traditionally in the Eastern region comes from culinary and dessert apples, quite different from the West Country, where cider apples are used. It lacks the astringentcy and so is far more palatable to a wider audience. More like an apple wine, it isn't fizzy or watered down like most commercial ciders. It is a little stronger at 7.0% with more natural sugars in the dessert apples to convert into alcohol, but easier on the head than West Country ciders with their high tannin levels. Like a good bottle of white wine Norfolk cider is best chilled in the fridge before serving.
Over the last 18 years the Norfolk Cider Company has won several regional awards and is a past CAMRA National Runner Up, also winner of several awards from the Guild of Fine Food Retailers.
If you have visited an Agricultural show in East Anglia you will have probably seen the Norfolk Cider Company use an original 19th Century Norfolk mill and apple press to produce fresh apple juice at the Norfolk, South of England, and East of England county shows, and the Fenland Country, Barleylands and Hatfield House Craft Shows.
